I am a self-taught artist, which means I like to draw and have done so since an early age. Drawing is self expression. Drawing is an escape. Drawing allows me to create a fantasy, like diving into a wonderful book. I believe everyone is an artist whether you are packing an art or art history degree or just like to build sand castles at the beach. I am enchanted by humanity and over the past decade have tried to capture glimpses of human expression and feelings.
In 1993 with my degree and all my stuff packed in my truck, I headed west to L.A. to find fame, fortune, and some good waves. I have not yet found fame nor fortune and the waves are cold, but I did find work. Film work is sporadic at best and, between shows, I would draw for myself and to decorate my Hollywood apartment. I started to "go big". One of my early pieces found its way to the sidewalk — a charcoal on found brown paper of a very young Mick Jagger. I remember the sound of tires screeching and some Hollywood Hipster jumping out of an ancient Ford Bronco proclaiming, "That's Mick Jagger! How much?" That first sale was an exhilarating rush; more, however, for the appreciation than the purchase, although I did eat well that week and fixed my brakes.
Now, I use various mediums, archival paper, canvas, and museum framers. Film work is still sporadic at best and I still draw between shows. Some music really burns inside me and I hope that is reflected in my work.
Goals? Well, I've always wanted to do an album cover, but I'd settle for a CD cover!
